Small businesses are often described as the backbone of the Indian economy. It is easy to see why.

From corner shops to manufacturing units and innovative start-ups, these small firms play a critical role in local communities up and down the country.

They are also essential to the resilience of the wider economy.

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) employ over 111 million people. They contribute around 29% to India’s GDP. Small businesses account for 45% of India’s manufacturing output. They are responsible for 46% of India’s total exports.

They are also important for inclusive economic development because of their widespread presence, especially in rural areas.

And during the last decade it was the small businesses, rather than large corporations, that were a driving force of economic growth.

However, in the dynamic and often fluctuating business environment, MSMEs frequently face financial challenges, especially when it comes to securing funds for business expansion, working capital, or other urgent needs. In such scenarios, gold loans have emerged as a valuable financial tool, offering a lifeline to small business owners.

Gold loans typically offer competitive interest rates compared to unsecured loans or credit cards. The lower interest burden can help small business owners manage their finances more effectively, ensuring that a significant portion of their earnings isn’t taken away by interest payments.

What Is A Gold Loan

A gold loan is a kind of secured loan that you can get from lenders like banks or Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFC). Here you have to pledge your gold jewellery as collateral to get the loan against gold. Lenders decide the loan amount after checking the weight and purity of your gold jewellery.

Gold loans can be a cost-effective option for small business owners because they offer:

  • Lower interest rates: Compared to other types of loans, gold loans can have lower interest rates.
  • No credit check: Banks are comfortable advancing gold loans even to people with low credit scores because the jewellery acts as collateral.
  • Quick and convenient: Gold loans can provide quick access to funds.
  • Less documentation: Gold loans may require less documentation than other types of loans.
  • Security of gold assets: The gold assets are safe until the loan is repaid.
