The Income Tax Bill, 2025, intends to streamline and reorganize the current Income-tax Act, 1961, and has been presented in Parliament. As taxpayers look for clarity regarding the new tax system, specific rate rules, and compliance obligations, here are several key points to note:

No Requirement to Choose the New Tax System Again 

Taxpayers who have previously selected the new tax regime under the Income-tax Act, 1961, will not need to choose it again under the suggested legislation. The shift is anticipated to be smooth, guaranteeing that all taxpayers’ rights and responsibilities stay unchanged.

New Regulations and Forms to be Revealed After Implementation

The Bill is presently being examined by Parliament. Upon implementation, new regulations and forms for tax compliance will be established, incorporating stipulations for Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT) and the selection of the new tax regime. The government has guaranteed that these administrative actions will be aimed at ensuring taxpayer comfort.

Reforms Integrated into Budget 2024-25

All the recent modifications to income tax slabs and deductions revealed in the Union Budget 2024-25 have been included in the Income Tax Bill, 2025, guaranteeing uniformity in tax policies for individual taxpayers.

No Change in Special Rate Terms; But More Clarity

  • A separate section dealing with the New Tax Regime for individuals, domestic corporations, and cooperative societies has been created. 
  • Elimination of redundant provisions for better readability.
  • Simplified tax tables to take the place of lengthy explanations and conditions will be put in such a way as to be clear with respect to the income that has different rates of taxation.
