Bank Holiday Good Friday 2024: Banks in different Indian states and Union Territories will remain closed on Friday (March 29) on account of Good Friday. However, in some states such as Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Assam, Jammu, and Kashmir banks will remain open and hence people in these states can visit their nearest branches to complete their pending tasks.
It is always good to check the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Holiday calendar to know when banks in different parts of India will remain closed. Bank holidays are not the same across all the countries in India, but vary depending on regional and state-specific holidays.
It must be remembered that though banks will remain shut in different Indian cities today, people can still conduct their routine financial transactions and make payments online via net banking as online banking services will continue to operate as normal.
During this month, bank will remain closed for as many as 14 days due to public holidays, regular holidays and regional holidays. Apart from public and regional holidays, banks in India remain closed on Sundays and the second and fourth Saturday of each month.
Will banks remain open on this Saturday and Sunday (March 31).
Usually, it is seen that banks remain closed in all Indian states on Sunday which this time overlaps with the end of the financial year. However, this time the RBI has asked all designated branches of banks to remain open on Saturday (March 30) and Sunday (March 31), as a part of “special measures for the current financial year”.
Banks To Remain Closed For Almost 14 Days In April:
Banks will remain shut for as many as 14 days in April this year, as per the RBI calendar. Banks will observe holidays in April 2024 on account of different festivals including Babu Jagjivan Ram’s birthday/Jumat-ul-Vida, Gudhi Padwa/Ugadi/Telugu New Year/Sajibu Nongmapanba/Ist Navratri, Ramzan-Id, Bohag Bihu, Cheiraoba/Baisakhi/Biju/Himachal Day, Shree Ram Navami, Garia Puja.
Bank holidays April 2024 – State-Wise list
- April 1, 2024: Banks will remain closed in most Indian states except Mizoram, Chandigarh, Sikkim, Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya to close their yearly accounts.
- April 5 – Banks will remain closed in Hyderabad – Telangana, Jammu, and Srinagar on account of Babu Jagjivan Ram’s Birthday and Jumat-ul-Vida.
- April 9 – Banks will remain closed in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Hyderabad – Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Goa, Jammu and Srinagar on account of several occasions.
- April 10 – Banks to remain closed in Kerala on account of Ramzan-Id (Id-Ul-Fitr).
- April 11 – Banks will remain closed in most states on account of Ramzan-Id (Id-Ul-Fitr) (1st Shawaal). However, banks will remain open on this day in states like Chandigarh, Sikkim, Kerala, and Himachal Pradesh.
- April 13 – Banks to remain closed in Tripura, Assam, Manipur, Jammu and Srinagar.
