Public and private sector banks in India will remain closed for as many as 12 days in July 2024 due to various regional and national holidays. As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar list, there are five designated bank holidays, in addition to regular bank holidays in the month of July.
The RBI releases an official list of bank holidays every month. The designated bank holidays for this month as mentioned in the RBI holiday calendar list fall on July 3, 6, 8, 9, 16, and July 17. The four Sundays in July are July 7, 14, 21, and 28. At the same time, the second and fourth Saturdays fall on July 13 and 27.
Bank holidays are not the same across the country but vary from state to state depending on the regional festivals. The RBI classifies holidays into three categories: Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday, Banks’ Closing of Accounts Holidays, and Holidays Under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
Banks in India remain closed on all Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. One must note that even on bank holidays people can conduct their routine financial transactions and make payments online via net banking as online banking services will continue to operate as normal.
It is always good to check the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Holiday calendar to know when banks in different parts of India will remain closed to avoid any inconvenience at the last moment.
